Two items: Typed Letter Signed, 1 p. 4to addressed to an Ernest Schwartz of Ardmore Junior High School confirming the inclusion of having signed stamp covers. Usual mail folds, light fade mark to left center. Printed on The Citadel Stationary. Also included is a 4" x 5" B&W photo, signed in blue ink across the chest: "To Michael Schwartz / With Best Wishes / Mark W. Clark" GEN Mark W. Clark (1896 - 1984) was the youngest 4-Star General in WWII and also served in WWI and Korea. Graduating two years behind Eisenhower at West Point, the two had close camaraderie at the Academy which lasted throughout Clark's career. He commanded the landings at Salerno and Anzio against the forces of German Gen. Kesselring. Some of his tactical decisions, including the bombing of Monte Cassino and the crossing of Rapido River were questioned by both soldiers and politicians, however he survived a deliberative inquiry. After his retirement, Clark was the President of The Citadel from 1954 - 65. "The Communist enemy is a voracious beast. The more he is given, the hungrier he becomes. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Frankfurt, 1971. TLS (typed letter, signed) and 6 3/8" by 4 1/8" black and white photo, both signed, from aviation author and active organizer Wilhelm Sachsenberg. Letter is folded and in Very Good condition, photograph is in Near Fine condition. Sachsenberg is shown next to an unidentified aircraft in the photo (see scan). The letter is typed on the letterhead of Deutsche Aero Club E.V. and is dated 19 Mai 1971. Sachsenberg, whose title underneath his signature is Ehrenvorsitzenderder Motoflugkommission des DAeC (basically, Honorary Chairman of the Motorized Flight Commission of the Deutsch Aero Club), was the author of, among other titles, "Hermann Koehl: Unser Ozeanflug (Our Ocean Flight)", the story of the successful 1928 crossing of the Atlantic in 1928 of Hermann Koehl and crew in a Junkers W33, after a 1927 effort had failed. Annual Conference in the Laboratory depicting a group of about 50 tie-and-jacketed men in one of the lab rooms, at least two of the men in military uniform, many others with a service(?) ribbon on lapel, photograph with the studio embossed imprint at lower right of photographer Edwin Levick New York, 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" mounted on gray stiff paper backing; (with) 1920 & 1921conference member group photos, also by Levick, very similarly taken outdoors at the company offices, same photo size, on heavier cardstock mounts; (with) a portrait of D.C. Ball, 7 1/4" x 9 1/4" approx., on thin mount card, inscribed at bottom "To My Friend Walter A. Graue sincerely D.C. Ball" and with a tipped-on small news clipping illustrated with a bronze lion that had been presented to him "By his friends in the Oakley Chemical Company." - the bronze seen prominently next to Ball in the photo-portrait, which is not photographically credited; (with) an accompanying letter on letterhead to Graue, dated 1921, thanking him and others for their long-standing support and friendship in the company and enclosing the photograph and giving thanks for the magnificent bronze memorial; (with) an additional photograph of D.C. Ball, with 3 other people, perhaps family members, 5 3/4" x 8 1/2" on the original decorative gray cardstock mount, no studio noted; light wear to all; in very good condition; the Oakley Chemical Co. founded in 1909, now part of the Chemetall international group of companies; Oakley known for its 'Oakite' product family of metal cleaners and compounds; interesting American industrial history and commercial photographic portraiture. 9 x 11 watermarked stationery. Typed Letter Signed (with annotated corrections in pen), and a Signed Photograph from Richard E. Burton (1861 ñ 1940), poet. Letter written on Burton's Department of English, Rollins College stationery, dated, April 24th (with no year given) and addressed to "My dear Larremore, the son of Wilbur Larremore, famous poet. In part: "My dear Mr Larremore: The books, properly autographed, started back to you yesterday. I am sorry the copy of Dumb in June isn't a first edition, which, beginning as a seventy-five cent book in the quaint original edition, I have seen quoted as high as $5. I'm glad to get your father's poems. in it some genuine and artistic utterances." Near fine. Seller Inventory # 6794

Fort Clark, Texas: July 29, 1938. Typed letter signed "G.S. Patton, Jr." to "Morry" [Luxenberg] a friend and military uniform supplier. This letter is anticipating his general's stars just days after becoming a colonel. Patton was promoted to colonel on July 24, 1938, and given command of the 5th Cavalry at Fort Clark, Texas, and this letter was written on the 29th of July. Letter on single sheet stationary headed "Fifth Calvary/ Fort Clarkm Texas," (7 3/16 x 6 15/16 inches; 183 x 177 mm). Typed on recto only. Letter dated "July 29, 1938." Letter reads: "Dear Morry;/ Thanks a lot for the Eagles and for the good/ wishes about the stars which I hope will also come/ true./ If you plan to come to Clark you had better write/ the adjutant and ask him how many prospects there will/ be you see this is a pretty small place. I cant make/ inquiries for you as it would not look right./ With renewed thanks, I am/ Truly yours/ G S Patton [autograph]/ G. S. Patton Jr./ Col. 5th Cav." [With] Black and white photo of Patton signed "G S Patton" at the bottom edges. Letter is backed and some glue residue showing through. Two hole punches at the top with sticker reinforcements. "Patton" written in blue crayon at top edge. A few words underlined in blue ink. One light folding crease and a few staple holes at tope. Very good. Photo very good also. "Morry Luxenberg, a tailor who specialized in military uniforms. In his calling Mr. Luxenberg became acquainted with many of the nation's military leaders. The 'Wall of Fame' in the office of his shop. was covered from floor to ceiling with autographed photographs and letters from high-ranking officers. Generals of the Army, Douglas MacArthur, and George C. Marshall, and Generals Jonathan M. Wainwright, George S. Patton Jr. and Leslie J. McNair were among his customers." (New York Times Obituary).
