Item description from seller

8 1/4" x 11 3/4" printed December 1993 holiday greeting hand-addressed to General and Mrs. Fergusson and SIGNED 'All the best from Berlin, Ernst Cramer'. An unusal holiday greeting, Cramer shares his thoughts on the state of the world, highlighting economic woes and suffering, and closes with his encouragement to help those in need. Ernest Cramer (1913-2010) was a co-founder of Alliance of German-Jewish Youth, a Zionist youth movement and was arrested after Kristallnacht, being imprisoned in Buchenwald. In 1939 he managed to emigrate in 1939 to the US, although his parents and brother were killed. Ernst returned to Buchenwald as a U.S. soldier, and eventually rose to be Chairman of the Board of the Axel Springer Foundation. In 1996 he received the Leo Baeck Medal bestowed upon those who have helped preserve the spirit of German-speaking Jewry in culture, academia, politics, and philanthropy. General Robert Fergusson was Commandant of the American sector of Berlin 1967-1970.
