Item description from seller

River Basin Surveys Papers, No. 30, from Bureau of American Ethnology Bulletin 185. Inscribed by the author on the title page. Light green paper wrappers with black lettering on cover. Slight fading along edges of wrappers; very minor creasing and wear to extremities. Staple binding is tight. Page 229 has a short note added in ink, which appears to be the same handwriting as the author's inscription. Otherwise, interior is clean. Paginated 167-233. Includes a small section of black-and-white plates, three folding maps, and other figures with the text. This paper reports on the findings from two partially excavated and eight unexcavated aboriginal occupation sites in the James River Valley, North Dakota. Using the artifacts and refuse materials recovered from those sites, the author identifies a new culture complex, which he calls the Stutsman Focus. ; B&W Plates; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall; Signed by Author.
