Six months ago, Killian gave up his humanity to save the woman he loved. In return he was cursed to become an odedaud, a bird with telepathic powers that must feed on human souls to survive. Now he is on the run with three of his friends, heading to join a new flock after Sven, his old flock leader, first tried to kill him and then drove him away.
The unnerving similarities between Sven and Mir, the leader of their new flock, are driven to the back of their minds when Killian is contacted by a mysterious woman who claims she needs his help to guard the source of the odedaud's power. Mir, on the other hand, claims the woman is lying.
Now Killian must choose between trusting a woman he has never met, or a leader who has yet to earn his respect. Will he make the right choice before it is too late? Because it is not just his life that hangs in the balance, but the lives of his friends, and of all those who call this world their home.
