Item description from seller

Stephen King (Introduction, 1991) ‘Signatures‘, US limited edition, published by Lord John Press. Presentation copy gifted by publisher Herb Yellin to Lawrence (Larry) Grobel. Signed by Stephen King underneath his introduction, and by all contributors as published. In addition, signed and inscribed by almost 200 famous celebrities from film, literature, art and politics (see below for a full list). Provenance: gifted by publisher Herb Yellin to Lawrence Grobel, freelance writer and journalist who has written for dozens of US magazines including New York Times, Newsday, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, The Saturday Evening Post, Reader’s Digest, American Way, Parade, Details, TV Guide, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Penthouse, Playboy and more. Grobel also publsihed 25 books of numerous celebrities. Grobel on this one-of-a-kind piece: “Yellin got the idea for his Signatures book and managed to get a lot of famous writers to sign the page that featured their photograph. One of the copies had a printing error, leaving twelve blank pages between the shots of Norman Mailer and Eudora Welty. He brought it to me as a gift, saying, ‘You’re the only person I know who could increase the value of this misprint by getting those blank pages filled with the people you know or interview.’ “I took it as a challenge, and took the book with me to book festivals, private events, and interviews, managing to collect 174 signatures [.] When I showed the book to people like Barry Diller, David Geffen, Liam Neeson & Brenda Maddox, David Duchovny & Tea Leoni, Paul Conrad, Joshua Bell, Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Bob Thornton, Hugh Hefner, Bob Knight, Thomas Keneally, Charlton Heston, Nguyen Cee Ky & Dan Ellsberg, Lou Cannon & Gov. Jesse Ventura, they chose to sign their name next to their own particular hero, be it Gandhi, Welles, Chaplin, Bogart or James Joyce, Thomas Pynchon, Thomas Jefferson, or Ronald Reagan. It made the book that much more interesting. There were some signatures that were so striking, like that of Michelangelo Antonioni, Jack Nicholson, or Jean-Claude Van Damme that I thought they deserved their own page (though when Jet Li saw the Van Damme signature, he said he’d like to sign that page as well). “Then there’s Al Pacino’s plea that I stop asking him to ‘sign these fucking things.’ Poor Al, having a friend like me forever bringing him something new to sign more times than he’d like to remember. I was lucky to get Lynda Barry and Matt Groening in a playful mood, and they drew their signature cartoons. Harlan Ellison drew his own cartoon character and wrote a touching tribute to our long friendship. For autograph collectors, this little book is filled with treasures, and when I showed it to Yellin before he passed in 2004, he thought it was what he had hoped it would become, a signature memoir of people I’ve known, read, or written about.” PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH US TO OBTAIN THE FULL LIST OF SIGNATURES FROM US AS ABEBOOKS LIMITES THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF CHARACTERS WE CAN PUBLISH AS A DESCRIPTIVE TEXT. We are also limited to just 20 images on abebooks. THANK YOU. First and Fine.
