Item description from seller

Large autograph of American-Puerto Rican poet William Carlos Williams. Framed next to his poem Portrait of a Woman at her Bath, from Pictures from Brueghel and Other Poems published in 1962. It was Williams's final book, for which he posthumously won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1963. William Carlos Williams was an American-Puerto Rican poet and physician closely associated with modernism and imagism. Imagism was a movement in early-20th-century poetry that favored precision of imagery and clear, sharp language. It is considered the first organized modernist literary movement in the English language. Williams practiced both pediatrics and general medicine. He was affiliated with Passaic General Hospital, where he served as the hospital's chief of pediatrics from 1924 until his death. The hospital, which is now known as St. Mary's General Hospital, paid tribute to Williams with a memorial plaque that states "We walk the wards that Williams walked".
