Condition: Very good. - 13 words filling half of a sheet of his personalized 7-1/4 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide letterhead with his Rhode Island address printed at the top. Signed "Daddy". The top right corner is creased. Folded 3 times for mailing. Together with his personalized mailing envelope addressed in his hand to "Sylvia Foster Lardner" but with no street address [the note probably accompanied a gift]. The envelope has been roughly opened down its left side. The letter is in very good condition. Foster Lardner writes to his daughter Sylvia Foster Lardner Page [1913-1997]: "With love from Mother & Daddy -- We are very proud of you Dear".An actor and amateur magician, Foster Lardner [1873-1934] was taught magic by Al Baker. For twenty years he was the head of the Keith organization in and around Providence, Rhode Island. He was also a member of the National Conjurers' Association Ring No. 2 in Rhode Island. He was manager of the Albee Theatre in Providence and stage manager for the SAM Carnival of Magic [1931] which featured Cardini, Jarrow and Hardeen. During World War I he gave frequent magical entertainments for soldiers in hospitals and later gave shows in the children's hospital in Providence. Seller Inventory # 95658

(Gathorne Hardy, 1814-1906, Cabinet Minister, from 1878 Viscount Cranbrook, from 1892 1st Earl), 3" x 5¼", Foreign Office seal with royal arms, postmarked 13th October seal neatly divided on opening, tiny chip and a little worn in centre He became President of the Board of Trade in 1866, Secretary of State for India in 1867, and Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1874. In 1870, during the interval between these last two appointments, he was the Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company.
