1885 Handwritten Quaker Letter signed by Thomas P. Nichols to Levi Chace concerning the sale of land in Newport, RI . The letter reads: "Westerly RI 4 mo 20/85 Dear Levi Thy kind letter received on 6 day last. Agreeably to thy request I conversed with our friend Thos Perry, on the Mann Av. Property. He coincides with me, I think that we may as well wait a few days, for the act of The General Assembly to be recorded, and then write to the Secretary of State, his is the (official to whom we should apply) for a copy of the act or law on the subject. Of course, there will be a fee for copying & certifying, maybe thou hadn't better get friend Gilpin to write to the Secretary for a copy of the act at close of this week, and pay what he charges to come out of proceeds of sale of the meeting house. Of course, I would entertain any offer made for the estate the deed to be given when we have the act if it is perfect &c. But would not advise just now. Love to thy family and to all friends.
