About this Item
Upton Close was the pen name of Josef Washington Hall, a reporter, Washington University professor, and ultra-conservative radio commentator. He specialized in Asian affairs and often predicted the uprisings and revolts there and the effects they had on global relationships. This copy, a second printing from the same month as the first, is inscribed, signed and dated by the author opposite the title page: "To Clara Augusta Trotter / Ashland Oregon / Josef Washington Hall / 'Upton Close' / May 11 - 1927". The inscription is followed by some Asian characters that I can't translate! There is a faint stain on the edges of the first couple of pages, three bookseller labels (why?) on the front endpapers, and the red cloth covers are a little faded on spine and edges. A very good signed copy. JS. Seller Inventory # 002481
