in a autograph letter, signed "Haldeman & Durritt" 21 May 1858, from the "Office of the Daily Courier," Louisville, Kentucky, to "His Excellency James Buchanan, President U.S." 4to. One page, approximately 125 words, on blue paper. In part: "The bearer of this, Geo. F. Fuller, a resident of this city now stationed at Washington is a very estimable gentleman and a sterling Democrat. He will probably apply to your Excellency for an Italian consulate for which his business habits & fine scholarly attainments immensely fit him. He reads, writes & speaks the Italian, French & Spanish languages with fluency and accuracy and would well fill the office of American consul in either of these countries." The artist George F. Fuller lived and worked in the South during this period, but we have not been able to positively connect him with Louisville. Very good. Seller Inventory # 50231
