Going to the limits of the thinkable and experienced - this has challenged artists and philosophers since ancient times. Rainer Marten sketches three ways of radicalism of the mind that explore fundamental questions of human existence on philosophical, theological, and writerial paths. At Heidegger, Paulus and Proust, three formidable designs are presented in which phenomenon areas such as life and death, happiness and time, faith and truth are addressed point-to-point. In the sense of an enlightening, not disenchanting enlightenment of what the mind is able to do in its boundary passages and border crossings, a double poetry occurs: everything that philosophy and theology formulate as assured knowledge, as grasped reality, and as a reasoned truth exhibits a poetic character. But they seek to hide - again with poetic means. Thus, the "hardness test" comes to the freed mind, which relies entirely on itself, to acknowledge the poetry, which conceals itself as poetic as poetry, as such. By transcending poetry as poetry, man opens up the opportunity to make the concealed, hidden, inaccessible, even ultimately the mystery and wonder of life become reality and to incorporate into his diverse divided life and his practiced self.
