Item description from seller

- Four pages, 5-1/4 inches high by 4-1/8 inches wide. Approximately 150 words penned on four sides of a folded sheet of creamy white paper, addressed to the wife of the American lecture manager and impressario James B. Pond. The pianist Marguerite Labori expresses her pleasure that Mrs. Pond had "such a pleasant stay on the Continent" and regrets that she didn't get to see her. Major Pond had likely invited her second husband, famous for his defense of Dreyfus and Zola, to return for a tour of America as she goes on to say that her husband "thanks Major Pond for his offer to come back again to see him, but at present he would not be able to make any plans for a trip to America." She does offer hope though "But we do hope to make up our minds to go to the States within the next year, & if this desire is realized we shall let you know." Signed "Marguerite Labori". Folded once for mailing. Very good with the original postmarked mailing envelope. Born Maggie Okey in Australia, the classical pianist & composer Marguerite Labori (1864-1952) toured with her first husband, the celebrated pianist Vladimir de Pachmann. Following her second marriage to the attorney Fernand-Gustave-Gaston Labori who was famous for his defense of Zola and Alfred Dreyfus, she turned to composing. She achieved distinction as a composer with her Piano Concerto in F minor.A RARE autograph.
