About this Item
Once listed, this will be the Only signed copy of the book for sale anywhere on the Internet. In fact, I was unable to find any signed copies of the artist's books. The inscription is on the blank first front end paper. It reads 'To Cliff from Hans, New York, Dec 16, 1968.' When I purchased the book many years ago I put a little note in it stating that 'Cliff' was Cliff P. Zeiger. Unfortunately, I have no idea now how I knew that then. I googled the name and didn't find anything. You can see the gray covers in the photos provided. They are very clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. There's little to no wear. The edges and corners are in very good shape. There is a little bit of color fade off the bottom edges, particularly the bottom edge of the spine. The book is solidly bound. I scrolled through the pages and didn't find any instances of cracks or spaces between them. The covers are tightly bound. The pages are in very nice shape. I'm not finding any creasing. They are also exceptionally clean. I found only one fairly light area of soiling on one page, page 8. The white inside covers and end papers are very clean. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. And with the exception of the artist's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. The jacket is in pretty good shape. I've had it in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book. It does have a 2 1/4 inch tear along with some adjacent creasing off the top edge of the front cover. There's a smaller crease off the top edge of the rear cover and there are a few small scuffs on the rear. The flaps are in very good condition. They are also quite clean. The jacket is NOT price-clipped. The jacket design is by Hans Unger. I found several blogs about Hans Unger. One presents a number of pictures of his works including a photo of him be presented to the Queen. 'Hans was a terrific designer, who made some memorable posters for London Transport, amongst other things. He took his own life in the late 70s. I believe his partner, Eberhard Schultz, went back to Germany. Their partnership became very well known, and their smaller works were apparently much in demand by collectors.' The book is dedicated to Mr. Schulze 'in memory of all the mosaics we scrapped while learning our craft.'. Seller Inventory # 003121
