Item description from seller

A series of 20 leaves bound into a presentation full grain crushed morocco "Designer" binding initialled "D. B-W 1986". The 20th century art abstract design in two colours black and salmon pink with gilt embossed titles down the spine and the tips of what I assume to be piglets tails in the design. The 20 original ink drawings with the full rhyme are mounted and set into separate pages on black art card on the right hand sides only. The size is quarto or 27.5 x 22.5 cm (11 x 9.5 inches. All held in a clam shell box with cloth lining, box has slight wear, contents Fine. Sold as a collection of 20 drawings. Accompanied by a copy of the 1933 "Eleven Joy Street Annual" with these illustrations and rhyme at page 61 onwards. *Note on the artist: There is little known of the artist, either birth or death, she illustrated a number of books between 1932 and 1940, this series on Paddy Pig was published in Number 11 Joy Street in 1933, probably drawn in 1932. She illustrated an edition of Alice in Wonderland in 1940 which appears to be her last published work. Was she killed in the war? **See Alan Horne "Dictionary of 20th Century Book Illustrators". The "one off" Presentation binding is a lovely & unique example of 20th century art designer bindery craftsmanship. Initialled inside back board, name not found. A Copy of the Joy Street Annual Number Eleven will be included in the purchase price.…

Store description

We are a small, single-owner business. We have been operating on and off since 1977 and our stock is varied, leaning towards antiquarian and 19th century with the addition of original aquatint and lithographic, or woodcut engravings. Also maps and Ephemera - in fact, anything interesting on paper really. We have in stock every item we list. We do not use stock photographs, but photograph each item individually. We very rarely use "fine" or "mint" as a description, mainly due to the age and the fact that 99.9% of what we sell has been pre-owned and therefor Fine would not be a term for a book we sell despite its fine-like appearance. We always take items back unreservedly if not in the condition as described. We always try to describe fully.…
