About this Item
138 pp. SIGNED. #509 of 750 copies. 16 color plates, 48 B&W illustrations. 10.25 x 12.25. This book, both written and illustrated by the son of "Scott of the Antarctic" by the time he was 25, speaks to his wonderment and admiration of this particular bird, "Like a symphony of Beethoven, the call of the geese is everlasting, and those who have once known and loved it can never tire of hearing it." Not long after this book, his work during W.W.II resulted in his becoming a Member of the Order of the British Empire. Endpapers, while showing age and with some pencil markings, are beautifully--yet simply--illustrated with geese in flight from one side to the other. "Eric Sedgwick Hervey" bookplate. Covers are three-quarters marsh brown cloth, somewhat worn with light stains, one-quarter brown spine with gold lettering. Ragged-edge pages with gilt top. Seller Inventory # 000793
