Gray cloth spine with title , design in black on spine & black cloth covers with title, etc. in white on front cover. General edge wear; small piece of cloth missing from top left of spine, black cloth torn off of back cover; dampstaining to lower right edge of prelims. & part of margins of text. Presentation copy signed in ink at top of front endpaper: "Dr. Theobald Smith with the regards of Simon H. Gage". Though not signed by Smith, it is a book that once belonged to him. Gage was an expert microscopist & histologist & editions of his book were reprinted down to 1941. Presentation copies of his work are not common & this is an especially interesting item as it was signed to Theobald Smith. Presentation/Association item. Weight: 3 lbs.
