pp.viii, 220 with text figs., and printed end-papers plus 32-page publisher’s catalogue. 8vo. Hardback. Some spotting to fore-edge of text block and occ. minor spotting internally o/w. contents fine. Original decorated green cloth boards with gilt lettering in vg. plus condition. Loosely inserted is a signed, typed, note from Beemaster R.O.B. Manley (on his headed notepaper) to The Lady Saye & Sale, Broughton Castle (dated July 2nd 1941) in which he explains that he couldn’t provide her with honey that month and that ‘The season has been a very curious one with bees starving up to a fortnight ago’. Also loosely inserted is a handwritten copy of ‘The Bee’ taken from The Boys Own Book of Natural History by the Rev. J.G. Wood. A very charming copy and most unusual to find such material from R.O.B. Manley. The printed end-papers feature adverts for Neighbour’s Improved Cottage Beehive, The Cheshire Crystal Palace Prize Frame Hive, The Carr-Stewarton Hive, and Isaac Hale’s Ten Bar Frame Hives. John Hunter was Honorary Secretary of the BBKA.
