Romaine, the longtime Corresponding and Financial Secretary of the Ohio Colonization Society, which was hard at work despite [or because of] the Reconstruction Amendments abolishing slavery and admitting Negroes to American Citizenship. Romaine pleads passionately for aid to Liberia. "It is an admitted fact that the evangelization of Africa must be accomplished through the instrumentality of the native population.
