Hardbound. Rust-orange cloth, white & color illus. dust jacket. xix, 164 pp., 8 color and 217 bw plates. "Deals in a clear and authoritative manner with the products of the Lowestoft factory, established on the extreme tip of the Suffolk coast in 1757, probably the smallest eighteenth-century porcelain factory and principally concerned with selling useful wares, such as tea services, mugs, and jugs to its neighboring East Anglian towns and villages. Some of these charming articles were made to special order and are inscribed with names of local farmers or tradespeople, and a series of 'birth tablets' commemorates the birth of local children. Of these named and dated pieces, two hundred are listed by the author. Many of them are represented here in the generous selected of over two hundred plates -- mainly examples not featured in any previous book -- and are a considerable help in tracing the changing style of the Lowestoft factory." (dj). G+ (Binding has average wear; dj is aged with possible spine fading and may be corner clipped; first page may have embossed stamp of former owner; pages are quite nice and clean.).
