The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is comprised of the title novella and eight stories about working-class outsiders scorned by the "Establishment". A watershed publishing event and a harbinger of social rebellion during the 1960's, the title was an extraordinary critical success and an immediate best seller when it was first published in 1959. It has remained so ever since, thanks to Sillitoe's virtuoso writing, his lucid portrayal of a world rarely seen and the profound resonance these stories have with all who feel the pressure to compromise their ideals. Alan Sillitoe is one of Britain's most venerated writers and the author of over 50 books. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is his best-known work as well as his favorite. Mr. Sillitoe has said that this book is "The statement of my artistic integrity". This book is in Very Fine condition and was only opened to verify the signature. This beautiful book is bound in full tooled leather with satin moiré endpapers, satin ribbon bookmark and 22kt gold highlights on the spine. The paper was made especially for this edition. The leather was cut entirely by hand. It includes a certificate of authenticity and a 4x6 card laid in with biographical information as well as a few words about the book itself. Published by Easton Press in 2002 it is a volume of heirloom quality and will be treasured for generations to come. We are happy to send pictures on request.
