About this Item
Single leaf, octavo, to New York Congressman and subsequent Mayor John Y. Lindsay, December 20, 1965, on White House letterhead, with his initials "JVL" docketed on the top by his personal secretary; unpublished ---- "Dear John, The celebration of Christmas is a holy time, a time of renewal and hope. It is a time for families and friends, neighbors and colleagues to join in the goodness of God, and His divine purpose. I could not let this Christmas pass without telling you that Mrs. Johnson, my daughters, and I ask God's blessings on you and yours. And I ask you to join with me in uttering a special prayer that peace will come again to this earth." A compelling letter written by Johnson a month after the first major battle of the Vietnam War involving U. S. troops (in the Ia Drang valley of the Central Highlands), ironically praying for world peace; professionally matted and framed, ideal for display. Seller Inventory # 000008
