Item description from seller

Frontispiece etching on handmade paper, full piece measures 18" x 25". Light wear along edges, tissue cover, embossed watermark along edge. Signed in pencil by General Leonard Wood and the artist, Boardman Robinson. Leonard Wood (1860-1927) was Chief of Staff of the United States Army, a physician, and commander of the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War. Wood graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1884 and served as a military surgeon during the Spanish-American War, rising to the rank of Brigadier General. Wood was appointed Military Governor of Santiago de Cuba in 1898 and later became the Governor-General of the Philippines in 1921. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Santiago campaign. Wood was a leading candidate for the 1920 Republican nomination but lost to Warren G. Harding. He died in 1927 and was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
