This is a photostat reproduction of the original diary kept by Tobias Lear, private secretary to George Washington, in which he records the circumstances of Washington's last illness and death. The diary was acquired by me from a descendant of Tobias Lear, was subsequently sold, and is now in a private collection." [ Signed - illegible], [typed] Expert in Autographs.
