Handsome original binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, London of full blue morocco with royal crest in gilt to the upper board; the spine with five raised bands and titles in gilt. Gilt dentelles. Binder's gilt stamp to the front turn-in. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Contained in the original marbled-paper card slipcase. Illustrated with 23 black and white photographic plates. xvi, 440pp., [plus plates]. A fine copy, the binding square and tight with just the slightest hint of toning to the spine. The contents with a little toning to the endpapers are otherwise clean and crisp throughout. The slipcase with minor nicks to the joints at the head and the foot and with a little rubbing to the edges is otherwise in very good order.
