Add to basket7 original pornographic drawings in blue ink. Original signed illustrated, erotic manuscript. 8vo., unpaginated: endpaper, hand-lettered title, [74pp.] text and 7ll. of illustrations. Holographic French text, in sepia ink in a copperplate hand, with a decorative initial, on graph paper, hand-drawn illustrations on blank paper, stapled and bound into the original Manila stiff paper wrapper with folded grey paper jacket glued on, brief bookseller/collector annotations in pencil in front and on inside back cover. N.p., signed 'Raymond' at the end of the text and dated 27 May 1922 Contents loose in worn binding, the spine almost completely decayed. In an honest state without restoration. Provenance: an unknown hand has written 'Dullin' in pencil on the back cover. From the Biblio- the?ques of Jean-Pierre Faur and Emmanuel Pierrat. A raw and unedited manuscript, presumably unpublished, telling the very sexually explicit story of a young aristo' nymphomaniac who masturbates furiously after her wedding night and begins a progressively more debauched and promiscuous moral career of sexual discovery and exploration. She 'does' a priest, huge phalluses, a dog, a very young man, an Ass, bearded twins en plein air and a male/female/female threesome. All of these episodes are illustrated with lively, outsiderish drawings of the corruption of a lady of high birth. The Ass has a long history in French erotic underground literature. A posthumous edition of Pucelle D'Orle?ans ( The Maid of Orleans ), by Voltaire, a founding father of the French Enlightenment, has an infamous plate of The Maid's seduction by a satanic Ass; who is in congress with her in another image and not Missionary! There is an example of this image in the print album ?Corps et A?mes' elsewhere in this catalogue (#205). As with ?The Maid of Orleans', there is a strong libertine undercurrent in the text, the donkey-lady of this manuscript abandoning herself, not unlike Voltaire's blasphemous Maid, '.to the voluptuousness of the present moment. Her eyes half-closed. Suddenly she is awoke from her torpor. The Ass, his legs either side of the improvised bed, is on her, his belly touches hers.'. We can find no trace of 'Jouir' , meaning ?enjoy' but also ?come' , or indeed 'Raymond' in the corpus of twentieth century French, clandestine, erotic bibliographies but perhaps the title at least was taken from Paul Margueritte's 1918, two part erotic novel with the same title. All in all, an interesting obscene text that revisits the libertine and Decadent attack on the clergy, class and nobility. It takes the female protagonist on the same sort of narrative journey as Sade's Justine, that short story also includes a donkey, or perhaps more appropriately her sister Juliette the amoral nymphomaniac. 220007.
