McCall, Mitzi, 1916-. Interior with figure: the life and painting of Charles McCall. Lewes: Book Guild, 1987, 198pp., good dust-jacket BUT there is an old moisture stain at the bottom of the spine and color from the binding has leached on to it, good blue cloth, very mild effect of the stain on the binding around the bottom of spine. INSCRIBED over 4-lines for Virginia, and SIGNED Charles and Mitzi. INTERIOR WITH FIGURE: Life as the wife of an artist was a step into the unknown for the young WAAF whose wartime romance led her to the altar with Charles McCall. Vague visions of a Bohemian existence had their attractions and she was not deterred by the warnings of hard times in the future. There were indeed to be hard times, but also happiness, excitement and fulfilment; a life that has been anything but drab -a rich palette of events vividly portrayed in this charming book. From the early struggle in postwar London through the gradual building of reputation to recognition today as one of Britain s foremost painters, Charles McCall has had the constant support of Mitzi as saleswoman, model and wife. Their story is spiced with some exotic locations and famous friends, hair-raising adventures and amusing anecdotes. It is told with skill and affection by Mitzi McCall and profusely illustrated with her husband s work spanning a period of half-a-century. Eloise Mitzi McCall was bom in 1916, the fourth daughter of Fred Ward, a well-known figure in the world of jewellery. Her mother died of consumption when Mitzi was only 18 months old and she was brought up by Old Jane , her stepmother. She started work during the Depression in her father s office in Hatton garden where she learned to string and grade oriental pearls. She served in the WAAF during the Second World War, but returned to the jewellery business in 1952 where she pursued a successful career until her retirement in 1984. Her deep love for and involvement with the art world has seen her take on the role of press officer for the New English Art Club. She enjoys reading, clothes, holidays in France, swimming and cooking, but considers looking after her husband Charles as her major work in life. Interior With Figure is her first book. Mitzi lives with Charles in London. 9780863322174 ISBN 0863322174. Seller Inventory # 84315
