[vi], 207, [2] pp Initial letters illuminated by hand throughout (4to) half tan suede and gilt-lettered boards, brown morocco spine labels lettered in gilt, top edge gilt No 542 of 960 copies Signed by Elbert Hubbard at the limitation statement This copy is also signed and inscribed by James Whitcomb Riley on a blank page at front: "To Mr and Mrs Edward Lodge McKee, with all fervent salutations of their old friend, James Whitcomb Riley Indianapolis, Feb 21, 1900" Below that are four lines of poetry in Riley's hand: "And you are one, as dawn and sun - / As noon and shine - as dusk and dew - / As bloom and fragrance; therefore one / My praise and prayers of you" A calling card printed with Riley's name is laid in Some general wear and areas of staining to boards; front hinge cracked, front free endpaper detaching; very good Elbert Green Hubbard (1856 - 1915) was an American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher Raised in Hudson, Illinois, he had early success as a traveling salesman for the Larkin Soap Company Hubbard is known best as the founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York, an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts movement He and his second wife, Alice Moore Hubbard, died aboard the RMS Lusitania when it was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland on May 7, 1915 James Whitcomb Riley (1849 - 1916) was an American writer, poet, and best-selling author During his lifetime he was known as the "Hoosier Poet" and "Children's Poet" for his dialect works and his children's poetry His poems tend to be humorous or sentimental Of the approximately 1,000 poems Riley wrote, the majority are in dialect His famous works include "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Raggedy Man" 208 pp.…
