About this Item

This memorable character actor of stage and television appears in more than one hundred films between 1931 and 1974, often portraying Irish cops, thugs, cabbies and assorted "heavies." IPS, heavy stock 8" X 10", n.p., n.y. Near fine. Minor silvering. Delightful head-and-shoulders sepia-tone portrait of a smiling younger Jenkins at the height of his fame, handsomely inscribed and signed in ink in a light portion at lower left: "To Jean Nelson / with best wishes / Allen Jenkins." These high-quality larger images (unlike the 6" X 8" or smaller images sent out in bulk by the studios to fans and bearing preprinted or secretarial signatures) were often reserved for "film folk" and such -- here an Iowa movie theater owner.
