451 pages, illus, a very acceptable condition copy of this classic work by Harry Atham and Jim Swanton. This is the 1938 reprint and is notable for being SIGNED by SWANTON on title page as part of an inscription which reads "With best wishes, 60 years on - Jim Swanton, Canterbury 6 May '98" (thus sixty years after the issue date of this copy). Swanton normally signed as "EW" until the last couple of years of his life when he often signed as "Jim", such as this copy, signed some 20 months before he died. There is a slightly faded award certificate on front pastedown with the signature of [Sir] ROBERT BIRLEY, Headmaster of Charterhouse 1935-47. Covers are somewhat marked and spine discoloured; bumping to corners; some marks internally but text pages are generally clean and tidy; overall robust and close to fair condtion.
