The subject of this self-published memoir is pretty well described by the subtitle: "A Prominent Jewish Family's Century in Shanghai and Internment in a WWII POW Camp." Describes the author's youth as a Jew in Shanghai; the history of her family's residence there; and their experiences during WWII, when they were confined to POW camps. Half-title page has the following inscription: "With Best wishes Ester Shifren." Illustrated with occasional black & white photos. An interesting memoir for anyone who had Jewish family in Shanghai who may have had similar experiences. Unlike most Jews in Shanghai, though, her family was not of Russian Ashkenazi origin; her Benjamin family were English Jews who immigrated to Shanghai from India. In very good condition, with slight curling to the edges of the cover. 6 x 9 inches, 255 pages.
