Octavo, 124pp. Copyright page states: "Volume Twenty-One" and "Handicraft. Typed and Bound by the Author." Seemingly hand-typed onto nice handmade paper. The book is well-constructed, with the signatures folded in the usual fashion, thus Knowlton knew what she was doing. The boards bear a nicely executed navy and gold decorative pattern, with a typed label on the spine. The dust jacket is also handmade, from thin blue paper, with several neatly trimmed paper decorations applied to the front panel, along with the author and title. The book is in fine, uread condition, while the jacket has some toning and a few small tears. Address label of "Mrs. Harry D. Knowlton" of Lakewood, OH (possibly the author, or perhaps a close relative) to the front flap. Lucia has SIGNED it on the front free endpaper with a generic inscription. The contents consist of poetry, and her own copyright page lists a number of contemporary journals (Child Life, Columns, Palmetto Leaves, Home Life, etc.) which "printed some of these verses." We take this to mean that Knowlton wrote all of this poetry, submitted it to juvenile literary magazines, and some of the verses were chosen for publication. Thus, this is a keepsake she probably made for herself. An excellent little volume of amateur poetry, appealing as a handmade object.
