Add to basketLimited to 300 copies, this is a Near Fine copy, signed by the author on the title page and inscribed to American painter DeWitt McClellan Lockman (1870 1957). Spine darkened. Tissue guarded illustrated inserts. 98 pages. 6.5" x 9". Frank Gray Griswold (1854 1937), a financier enjoying membership in New York City s high society during America s Gilded Age, describes El Greco as elusive and hardly known outside of Spain in the introduction to his biography of the Spanish Renaissance painter. Griswold s interest began with research in four languages before publishing his book in a limitation of 100 copies in 1929. Apparently unsatisfied, he issued this second edition the following year with double the content. Bound in gray paper over boards with the title in gilt, it is a handsomely designed association copy. .
