Fourth edition, signed and inscribed by Jawaharlal Nehru, 8vo (213 x 134mm.) Original black cloth, gilt lettering to spine and upper cover, dust-jacket chipped at spine ends but otherwise good. The inscription reads: ?ÄòTo Edward Halliday, in memory of his stay in India and with all good wishes, Jawaharlal Nehru, 6.3.1954?Äô. TOGETHER WITH Letters from a Father to His Daughter SIGNED The Allahabad Law Journel Press. The 11th impression 1947 (following the first dated 1930) Signed and dated by Nehru (1954) on the front blank. A close to Fine copy with just a short closed tear to the lower panel of the dustwrapper. We can find no other examples of this work in any edition signed by Nehru. Rare.Provenance : Edward Halliday, painter notably of portraits (1902-1984) Halliday was commissioned by many political figures, including Winston Churchill. He painted a portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru and also one of the interior of Teen Marti Bhavan, Nehru?Äôs presidential residence in 1954. He also painted Nehru's sister Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, politician, diplomat and 8th President of the United Nations General Assembly (see our other items from the same source)three New Year greeting cards ALL with printed inscriptions and signatures of Nehru in Hindi and English for 1958, 1960 and 1961 all 18x14cms.This select archive also includes 5 photographs of Nehru with the stamp of photographer Stephen D.
