A small black rimmed calling card, with 'Mr. George Frederick Kunz' printed in black type, then signed in pencil "George F. Kunz July 6/1912". Kunz [1856-1932] was known as an American mineralogist and mineral collector. Kunz is noted for his work, 'The Book of the Pearl', one of a series of works on gemstones, covering the formation of pearls, the natural history, and the preparation of pearls, prized for its reliable information & superb production. His interest in mineralogy started early and his immense knowledge gained him entry to Tiffany and Co. and a vice presidency by the time he was age 23. He remained very active throughout his career in US mining, mineralogy societies, and professional organizations enabling him to influence the carat as a unit of measure for gems. He also assembled the Morgan-Tiffany collection of gems at the American Museum of Natural History. 2 3/4 x 1 1/5", cream card with black border. Seller Inventory # 20312
