First Or Early Edition. Printed Card Covers. Dust Jacket. 4to. pp. xiv, [ii] , 305. 34 illustrations. Unopened. French text. Original printed cream card covers. White and yellow pictorial dust jacket lettered white and black. Presentation copy: 'A mes amis Kedourie, en fidele souvenir. Clermont, dŽcembre 1969. E. Djemil.' Handwritten signed letter in French loosely inserted from Demillac to Kedourie written on 14th August, no year given and consisting of about 770 words in which he thanks Kedourie for his letter and tells him about his recent students in China, one of whom was the cellist Yoyo Ma's father who has written an interesting book on Chinese music, he continues by discussing the use of the feminine and masculine in French nouns and finishes the letter with family news. Three handwritten New Year greeting cards in French loosely inserted from Demillac to Sylvia, Kedourie's widow and the family, the first addressed from Saint-Etienne dated 19. 12. 2002 and consisting of about 62 words in which he sends greetings from his wife, Madeleine and himself, the second consisting of about 30 words sends Sylvia best wishes for 2007 and includes Demillac's new address at 105 Ave. de la Republique 78500 Sartrouville, France in another hand and the last undated message consisting of about 80 words sends greetings from his wife, Madeleine and himself, he also includes the same new address as above. Printed card with information about the funeral arrangements for Francis-Paul Demillac, a blessing was followed by the internment of his ashes in the Sartrouville family vault. This also includes a list of the immediate family. Francis-Paul Demillac (1917 Ð 2014), was a violinist, conductor and composer. Elie Kedourie (1926 Ð 1992) was a noted historian of the Middle East. Guy Ropartz (1864 Ð 1955) was a composer and poet who taught Demillac harmony and composition. Dust jacket torn with slight loss at head of spine, light edgewear, otherwise very good. Light wear otherwise very good.
