West Bloomfield, MI: Phantasia Press, 1989. Signed Limited 1st Ed., No. 431 of 475 copies, signed in the colophon, with publisher cloth slipcase. Interior art, including those breathtaking endpapers, by Glen R. Bellamy. Octavo, red cloth boards, color pictorial jacket by Carl Lundgren, 243 pp. As New; flawless - book, jacket and slipcase. See scans. Though nowhere so indicated, this copy is from the library of noted collector Arthur W. Stone, for a bit of association status (provenance available to purchaser]. Well-regarded thread of related short stories by Card reads like a novel: all are set in post-apocalyptic Deseret, in the western U.S., where Mormon descendants strive to revive a civilization destroyed not so much by nukes as by biological and social nemeses. Ecologically aware, consistent and not at all heavy-handed. A handsome collectible, in superb condition. L36n.

Review
Card is a natural raconteur, capable of vividly fleshing out his original characters in a few strong strokes, without hitting a false note or lapsing into sentimentality. . . . This is one of the strongest SF story collections of the past few years. "Publishers Weekly""
