FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (1882-1945). Roosevelt was the Thirty-Second President. TLS. 1 pg. 8" x 10". November 8, 1940. The White House, Washington. A typed letter signed "Franklin D. Roosevelt" to "Honorable Mon C. Wallgren": "Please accept my sincere thanks for your message of congratulations. I appreciate it more than I can say. May I, in turn, congratulate you on your election to the Senate!" This letter was signed and sent by Roosevelt just days after his landslide re-election to an unprecedented third term as President of the United States in 1940. The letter was sent to Monrad Wallgren, who was then serving as a Democratic U.S. Congressman representing Washington. As Roosevelt mentioned, Wallgren had just been elected to an open U.S. Senate seat in Washington. Wallgren would serve as a U.S. Senator until 1945, when he resigned upon election to a single term as Governor of Washington. The letter has a mailing fold and is in very fine condition with a giant autograph. Seller Inventory # 5940
