Add to basket180p octavo Limited edition with a ne introduction, one of 2000 copies. About fine in quarter cloth with a touch of wear, tiny bookstore ticket on first page and tissue guard present but detached in matching near fine slipcase with some light wear at the edges, but lacking the dust jacket. Author Robert Grant's copy with his book plates on front paste down. Grant was a long time friend of Wharton and was an author and judge, who famously was tasked with reviewing the Sacco and Vanzetti trial prior to their executions. Laid in is a two page autograph letter Signed by Wharton to Grant written on a single sheet of her blue Pavillon Colombe letterhead and dated July 12th in either 1921 or 1922. The warm and engaging letter welcomes Grant and his wife to France and lays out her busy plans fo the summer, which include visits from her neice and sister in laws, motor-trips, and visits to England, but also her strong desire for a visit from the pair.: It would be too disappointing not to see you, & somewhere we must meet. Owing to these family visits, & other already arranged, my two tiny spare rooms will be full the greater part of the summer, but if they are free when you pass through, I hope so much that you & our friend will come out for a night at least." She also briefly comments in a postcript on the success of her Pulitzer Prize winning novel: Is the Age of Innocence to be staged??? If I waited for that, I doubt if I sh[oul]d ever see my native land again. What a yarn!" A wonderful associaten copy.
