A translation with anti-Catholic commentary of the "Monita Secreta" or Secret Monitor of the Jesuits. The document, which encourages the Jesuit to coerce donations to the order by any means necessary and to influence important public figures through the confessional, is considered by most scholars to be a libelous forgery. No publisher, place of publication, or date listed. The title page states that this copy was "Sold by Private Subscription only, and under Stipulated Conditions." It has an "Obligation " sheet pasted to the front endpaper asking the reader to pledge not to loan or show the book to others but to keep it hidden for personal use only. The pledge has not been signed.
