A presentation copy, inscribed by Canfield to the Jessups: "To Lois and Phil with affection from Cass," on the front endpaper. Lois Walcott Kellogg Jessup worked tirelessly for the American Friends Service Committee, the U.S. Children's Bureau (preparing reports on children in Europe during Second World War, and the United Nations, advocating for women's rights around the world. Philip C. Jessup, a judge on the International Court of Justice and veteran U. S. diplomat was credited with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin.
