Printed on rag laid paper at The Stinehour Press founded in 1950, this 1972 Limited Editions Club presentation of Ambrose Bierce's iconic satirical dictionary was produced in an edition limited to 1500, of which this is number 749, bound in black linen and scarlet leather "by those hellishly clever imps at the Tapley-Rutter Co." and signed by and illustrated throughout in woodcuts by Fritz Kredel (1900-1973). Edition limited to 1500, signed by Fritz Kredel, of which this is 749. 11 3/8" X 7 1/4". xii, 239pp. Bound in black linen over boards, with scribbling devil in gilt to upper board, spine backed in scarlet cowhide and lettered in gilt, housed in a red-and-black marbled paper slipcase with red paper title label. Very mild shelfwear to binding, with faint whiff of cigar smoke (or brimstone) to pages. Sunning to spine of lightly edgeworn slipcase.
