Signed caricature or war cartoon, depicting a German soldier embracing a Russian soldier in a grave yard of hastily erected wooden crosses bearing French soldiers' caps. The Russian crushed a French wooden cross under his feet. Signed in the print at the lower right, and on the paper to which it is tipped on. A limited edition, number 141 of 300. Forain (1852 - 1931) was a French Impressionist painter and print maker, one of the most noted on the first few decades of the 1900s. He was the most famous caricaturist of the Belle Epoque, and was influenced by the work of Daumier and Degas, a life long friend and colleague. Print measures 22 1/4 x 15", tipped on to larger sheet.
