A Good to Very Good Book Missing its Issued Dust Jacket. Signed by Julia Child to Half-Title Page, Dated 1953 in Marseille. Book is rubbed, bumped and to extremities. Spine is faded and boards have some soiling. Text block is a bit toned and dust soiled. Text has a few instances of pencil notation in Paul Child's hand, a few leaves have been dog-eared. Binding is square and mostly tight but spine cloth has been pulled at crown. The relationship formed between Paul and Julia Child & Avis and Bernard DeVoto was of an importance so profound it is hard to overstate. Julia and Bernard became acquainted when Julia wrote him a letter regarding an article he wrote in his Easy Chair column on a quality, inexpensive kitchen knife. Their friendship blossomed and Bernard was instrumental in helping Julia get Mastering the Art of French Cooking published. Moreover, the Devoto's residence in Cambridge, MA was the driving force in the Child's settling there. Publisher's Light Blue Woven Cloth, Red Detailing. Seller Inventory # 1273
