Item description from seller

pp. 65-76. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the author. - A very good and clean copy. - From the text: A murderous Goth and a Roman knight-errant seem to be unlikely material for a study of parallel lives. The sources, however, make it difficult to examine separately the careers of Count Gaïnas and Count Sebastian. In the present paper I propose to investigate more intensively than before the sources for the climax of Gaïnas career, and the testimony and chronology of the life of Sebastian. I shall argue that the Gothic historian Jordanes mistakenly assigned some of Sebastians deeds to Gaïnas. Finally, I shall attempt to identify the source of Jordanes confusion.
