JOHN BRATTON (1831-1898). Bratton was a Congressman and Confederate General from South Carolina.ALS. 2pgs. July 22, 1889. Farmington. An autograph letter signed Jno Bratton. Bratton wrote to a Charles Jones of Atlanta about Texan Confederate officer John Gregg (1828-1864), directing Jones to several people with recollections of him: Col A. C. Haskell of Columbia, S.C. might be able to procure for you, letters of both. He was with Gregg in the War, admired him & is now living in his (Gs) native city. Col Wm Wallan of Columbia, could doubtless help you as to Gregg. He is a family friend. The last time that I saw Greggs sisterswas at Wallans house. He knows where they are. A. Perrin was the Alabama Genl but an Abbeville man* has relatives there now. If Haskell cannot help you as to him, L. W. Perrin, Abbeville, S.C. may be able to do it. The letter is in fine condition and mounted on another sheet.
