When John Baker was diagnosed with a terminal illness, his wife Angela and her friends at the local Women's Institute decided to raise money for a family room at the local hospital by posing for an 'Alternative WI Calendar'. Wearing nothing but pearls and a smile strategically hidden behind flower arrangements and apple presses, these mature women beared all in a good cause. They thought that they might sell a few hundred calendars locally but their story soon stole the heart of the nation and sent them on a roller coaster ride which encompassed happiness and heartache, the making of a best-selling film, and the raising of almost £1million for leukaemia research.
This book tells the heart-warming story tale of the story behind the Calendar Girls phenomenon, with first hand accounts from the girls themselves. Starting right at the beginning before the idea of posing for a calendar was even conceived, and journeys through the process for producing the calendar itself, making the film Calendar Girls and the global publicity tour which resulted.
Lavishly illustrated with stills from the film and pictures of the real people and places.

I work from home and have a special interest in fine press & limited edition books, art and design related titles, and books signed by the author or illustrator. However, I also offer a good selection of general stock, including history, nature, fiction, and biography. Most of my stock is hardback and in first edition. I only buy and sell books in bright, clean condition, unless they are rare copies. Dustjackets on books sold are normally sold protected with a plastic cover.
