Item description from seller

Second printing. Inscribed by Cesar Chavez to Los Angeles antiquarian bookseller Michael Thomspon: "to Michael Thompson / Viva la causa! / Cesar Chavez / 1-24-84 / La Paz [Mexico]". Mexican-American civil rights and labor activist Cesar Chavez (1927–1993) comes to life in this vivid portrait of the charismatic and influential fighter who boycotted supermarkets and took on corporations, the government, and the powerful Teamsters Union. Levy gained unprecedented access to Chavez and the United Farm Workers Union in writing this account of one of the most successful labor movements in history which can also serve as a guidebook for social and political change. Octavo: xxv, [1], 546 pp. with numerous photographic illustrations and a map. Original red cloth binding, with gilt-stamped titling and borders. Mild bit of dust staining to the top edge. The dust jacket is clean and bright, with some light toning along the extremities; else very good or better.
