THE BOGS OF SURRENDERED NAMES
One can be lost in their own thoughts, but what if they were lost in another’s dream?
In The Bogs of Surrendered Names, Ronnie Vseslav is an aging rock star who has everything but a place to belong. He is drawn to an isolated and sentient hotel, where, through distortions of time, he is caught up in strange dynamics between the mysterious hotel owner, the Captain, and his determined assistant, Linda.
In toxic grief, the Captain has removed himself from reality to essentially live in his own thoughts, manifesting both dark nightmares and lushly beautiful worlds in the hotel. Blending past with future and desire with fact, his creation challenges the nature of reality and the malleability of memory and the mind.
As the line between dreams and reality is broken, the secrets that lie within this prison of paradise take the novel to a climax that none in the hotel can escape and pose the questions: What would you do for love? Would you relinquish your life? Could you give up your soul?
What others have said:
Situated in the Pacific Northwest and Portland, The Bogs of Surrendered Names leans into fantasy, relationships, and sometimes horror with aging rock star Ronnie and the embodied ghost inhabitants of the magical Lethe hotel. Sergei Itzam Coiot's original voice has created an ominous world both emotionally rich and original that pulls you in and holds you.

In The Bogs of Surrendered Names, Sergei Itzam Coiot has created a romantasy (fantasy/romance/paranormal with a touch of horror) that draws you in from the first page. The reader will find more than one love story and dark humour in the wry wit of Ronnie, the protagonist, along with the interesting and complex characters in this deeply imagined world. Like the hotel's residents, once you enter the Lethe, you will be entranced.
