About this Item
Stated Second Printing. Signed and inscribed on the first front end paper (' To Dick Elliott, with much sincere admiration, Fleur Cowles, March, 1952'). As you can see from the photos, the red covers are exceptionally clean and in very solid shape. There is a thin crease on the rear cover. The edges and corners are in excellent condition. The spine ends have a little bit of crinkling. The gilt and blue lettering on the spine is bright. The inside covers and end papers are a light blue color with a simple orange design. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover, no binding issues. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I didn't see any soiling. Nor did I see any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or dogeared corners. There are no markings anywhere. No attachments of any kind. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The dust jacket can be seen in the first few photos. It's held up fairly well (1952 has gotten to be a long time ago). There are a few relatively small edge tears. There's a little loss at the top edge of the spine. The spine is somewhat darkened. The flaps are in pretty good condition, with just a little toning off the top edges. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. 'Bloody Precedent is Fleur Cowles's first book, but her name is well known for her phenomenally successful career in the magazine field. She is Associate Editor of both Look and Quick and was originator and the Editor-in-Chief of Flair Magazine. From the dust jacket: 'Argentina is giving new force to the old adage that history repeats itself. Exactly one hundred years ago Juan and Encarnacion Rosas held their country in the grip of a dictatorship as firm as the one dominated by Juan and Eva Peron today. Ms. Cowles, a student of South American social and political history, reveals the startling similarities of both totalitarian regimes and traces the sinister rise to power of the Perons by the methods of their ruthless predecessors. Her disclosures are a warning and a challenge to the supporters of democracy in this hemisphere and in the world. Note: This volume contains the text of an astonishing Argentine White Paper written in 1950 by a minority member of the Argentine Congress, and not previously published.'. Seller Inventory # 002726
