About this Item
Octavo, blue cloth lettered in gilt; slightly soiled. First American edition, early printing. A presentation copy, inscribed: "A la Senorita L. Kellogg, Vincente Blasco Ibañez," on the half-title page. The recipient, Lois Walcott Kellogg Jessup (1898-1986), worked tirelessly for the American Friends Service Committee, the U.S. Children's Bureau preparing reports on children in Europe during Second World War, and the United Nations, advocating for women's rights around the world. She married Philip C. Jessup, a judge on the International Court of Justice and veteran U. S. diplomat, credited with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. A powerful novel with a distinguished provenance. Seller Inventory # ABE-16612764642
